Daylong Intensive Class

The Daylong Intensive

This class is a great way to get familiar with glass in a welcoming, safe, and fun environment. This class is more in-depth than our ornament, pumpkin, or paperweight class.  You will handle the glass at each stage of the process as you develop the necessary skills to complete each piece. Each participant goes through each step of making a variety of items under the instruction of an experienced glassblower. Steps are repeated so that the participant can learn more on their own instead of our instructor doing some of the steps, as is the case in our beginning classes (ornaments, paperweights, and pumpkins).

This class covers how to gather from the clear glass furnace, proper marvering and shaping techniques. as well as color application, and -of course- safety. Students will make a paperweight, several ornament/sun-catchers, and depending on how quickly the group is able to move through the forms, other forms like tumblers and small vases. There is some flexibility with what forms the group is interested in making.

The class begins at 10:00 am and continues until 5:00 pm and is currently available on weekends only. NOTE: If everyone in the group can attend an orientation the day before, we include this as a way to give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the studio and some processes before getting started the following morning.  This orientation is very helpful because it gives each participant a leg up on a few of the basic moves necessary for beginning the following day. We offer this at no extra charge so that you can get the most out of the class once it begins. We also go over shop safety  and how to use the tools at the bench during this orientation.  Each person will also get to practice gathering out of the furnace and shaping the glass (but not completing a piece).  We want to give you extra run-way before the big day!  If you can attend the orientation, we can schedule it at the convenience of the group (Friday evening for a Saturday class or on a Saturday for a Sunday class, for example).

Bring a lunch (we have a fridge in the studio), but we will have a variety of beverages for lunch, including water and gator aide to keep you hydrated while you work and healthy snacks for whenever needed.

Cost is $220.00 per person. Maximum of 4 students per instructor, minimum of 3 participants for a class to “make.” Each person in the course registers separately, one person per individual booking NOTE: If you can bring your own group,  you can realize significant discounts when you save  us from having to pay to advertise other slots in the class.  Please contact us directly about this option so that we can provide you with special coupon codes that your group can use during the registration process.
